The Youth Olympic Games is a worldwide multi sports event, which first held in Singapore from August 14 to August 26, 2010.
The President of International Olympic Committee, Mr. Jacques Rogge is proposed to conduct Youth Olympic Games. The ages of participants are in between 14 to 18. The International Olympic Committee will organize both Youth and Winter Youth Olympic Games. The Youth Olympic multi-sport event are allows athletes from more than 205 countries all over the world to compete against one another in the traditional 26 summer Olympic sports. The variety of sports played at the Games provides chances for students to learn about different type sports and the rules, etiquette and strategies associated with playing those games.
The Youth Olympic Games in Singapore will feature around 5000 athletes and officials from 205 countries all over the world.
The main reason of organizing such an event, according to the International Olympic Committee is to encourage the Olympic spirit among youngsters globally. Total 26 different games are to be contested during the introductory games, in a number of places across the country such as Bishan Sports Hall, Jalan Besar Stadium, East Coast Park, Kallang Tennis Centre and Singapore Indoor Stadium. Athletics, archery, basketball, badminton, cycling, handball, sailing, judo, hockey, shooting and volleyball are but a few of these sporting events. The main goals of the Youth Olympics are both culture and education.
